What will happen if I don't have sufficient power for a new video card.?

I recently bought a nVidia 512 Mb 8600 gt video card, and it says i need a 350 watt power supply, but mine's only 250 watts. It would be a while before i could afford a good power supply high enough to support the card. If I were to plug in the video card and install the drivers with this low power supply, would I just experience decreased performance or would it fry the card?|||Just replace the power supply. You will not fry it.|||What would most likely happen is that your computer just starts shutting down for no reason--protecting itself.
