My laptop just fried its video card, and of course it's the computer I keep all my music and photos on. Is there a simple way to connect the two so that I can access the hard drive directly from my PC since transferring onto a thumb drive/external hard drive is not an option? Replacing the video card is not an option either, it's an older Toshiba. Thanks!!|||I would borrow a monitor and plug it into the laptop's secondary video port. If the LCD panel is pooched you'll be able to access the system. If this does not work, get a USB carrier that can handle a 2.5" drive and mount your laptop drive. The drives on many systems can be removed fairly easily (check the mfr. web site). There are also adapters that let you tie a 2.5" drive to a standard ATA cable that another system can access.
hth|||Can you see anything running when you start the laptop?
If you do then the graphic card is still alive.
If not then you are right and quite frankly you have to connect your laptop to a monitor or TV. Using F5 button to change the display setting to allow it to use other viewing sources.
Don't forget to rate me as Best Answer!|||Do you have them both on the same network? And is file and printer sharing enabled on both of them? If so, you can connect to the laptop hardrive from your PC by going to Start, Run, and typing in \\<nameoflaptop>\c$ and pressing enter. (nameoflaptop should show up in network neighborhood on the PC)
