What is the best Video card/Graphics card for a Gateway E-1400 computer?

i know its an old model but i want it upgrade it to have a better video card, the processor is good, and it has a decent amount of ram so i was wondering if anyone can tell my of a good video card thats good for it.|||Well the E-1400 a small-form factor unit, and the processor isn't that good- it's a Celeron.



Even worse, the E-1400 doesn't have a dedicated graphics card slot (AGP or PCI-Express), it only has a couple of general-purpose PCI slots. Even the best video card available for the older PCI slot is much slower than a $40 PCI-Express card. Worst of all, the 90W power supply in that computer might not be upgradeable either.



The best card you can probably use is a GeForce 8400GS:

It's the lowest power-consumption PCI card you can buy.... but with a 90W power supply even that's iffy. You really might not have enough juice for anything beyond the integrated video.



Time for a new computer!|||putting in a good GPU in an old system will bottle neck no matter what kind of shape the rig is in. The CPU and RAM will operate slower than up to date counterparts. Imagine trying to make a VW bug with 4 bald tires into a stock car by putting in a racing engine. If you want to put in a good card you first need to know what interface you have, PCI, AGP, or PCIe.

These cards are compareable to enthusiasm desktop graphics cards, like the 9800M GT. The cards have a similar core, as their desktop counterparts, but are clocked lower and often have less shader processors. Modern games like Age of Conan, Race Driver Grid, Call of Duty 4, Mass Effect, or Gothic 3 should run fluently with high details (Crysis should run in medium to high details).
